Debt calculator
Work out the amount to repay with interest — for a single loan or several at once, in different currencies.
How it works
How the calculator works out interest on a debt
Simple interest at a monthly rate over calendar months — no compounding and no hidden factors.
Formula
Interest = amount owed × monthly rate × number of months
The number of months is the whole calendar months since the loan was issued, plus the remaining days divided by the length of the current month.
Example
A loan of 50,000 som at 5% per month was issued on 15 January and is calculated as of 24 September. That is 8 full months (to 15 September) plus 9 days out of 30 — 8.3 months in total. Interest: 50,000 × 5% × 8.3 = 20,750 som; the amount to repay is 70,750 som.
Questions about the calculation
How do I calculate interest on a loan?
Multiply the amount owed by the monthly rate and by the number of months since the loan was issued. The calculator does it for you: enter the issue date, the rate in percent per month, the amount and the currency, and the interest and amount to repay appear right away.
How are partial months counted?
A full month is reached on the same day of the next month: a loan from 15 January reaches it on 15 February. The remaining days are divided by the length of the current month: 15 to 30 January is 15/31 of a month. If the month has no such day, its last day is used: a loan from 31 January reaches a full month on 28 February (29 February in a leap year).
Is the interest simple or compound?
Simple: interest accrues only on the original amount and is not added to it (no compounding). Partial repayments during the term are not taken into account — the calculator gives the amount due on the chosen date.
What does “start from the day after the loan was issued” mean?
Some agreements accrue interest from the day after the loan is issued. With this setting on, interest on a loan issued on the 7th starts on the 8th.
Can I calculate debts in different currencies?
Yes. Som, US dollar, euro, ruble, tenge and yuan are supported. Totals are shown per currency and as a single sum in som, at fx.kg (opens in a new tab) average rates updated every 30 minutes. You can adjust any rate by hand, or turn off the conversion to som in the calculation settings if the debt will be repaid in the same currency.
Is the data I enter saved?
Only if you press “Share”, “Save PDF” or “Save Excel”. The calculation runs right in your browser, and without these buttons nothing is sent anywhere and the data is gone once you close the page. The buttons save the dates, rates, amounts, currencies and exchange rates (no names or contacts) and give you a link to the calculation — PDF and Excel files include it too: anyone who has it can open the calculation.
